Action research: Mobility of teenagers in aspern Seestadt

Dear teenagers, it’s your turn now!

Until now, we have mainly researched the mobility of adult Seestadt residents (especially as part of the Mobility Survey aspern Seestadt). Now it’s finally your turn to have your say because aspern Seestadt should be a happy place for everyone!

Our new study sheds light on the mobility behaviour of young people aged 12 to 19 in aspern Seestadt.

By taking part, you can make Seestadt a better place for young people. Help us to understand how young people move around aspern Seestadt, what works well and what doesn’t:

  • Which places do you think are fun and where do you spend a lot of time?
  • How do you get to your favourite places?
  • Are there places that you rarely or never visit?
  • What wishes do you have for the Seestadt / the mobility offers in the Seestadt?

Until the end of April 2025, you can share your answers to these questions with us. You don’t have to live in Seestadt to do this. It is enough if you are there from time to time! To take part, you should also be at least 12 years old and no older than 19.

Don’t worry, the results won’t just end up sitting in our drawer! Your opinions and experiences will be incorporated into the future design of aspern Seestadt and serve as a model for other neighbourhoods. The study was commissioned by Wien 3420 aspern Development AG*, which is responsible for local infrastructure and urban development. With your help, those responsible will know what they need to do to make aspern Seestadt even better for young people in the future!

How and when can I participate?

  • Sounding Board (February – May 2025, approx. four – five people): Would you like to become a real scientist? Then send us a message. As part of the Sounding Board, you will be fully involved and will be able to keep an eye on how we conduct, analyse and interpret the results. At the end, you can present the results together with us.
  • (Online) questionnaire (February – April 2025): Take about 10 minutes to answer our questions such as ‘Which means of transport (public transport, bike, skateboard, car, on foot, …) do you use and how satisfied are you with them?’ You must be at least 16 to complete the questionnaire online. If you are younger, you can get a print-out of the questionnaire from us.
  • Workshop (mid-April 2025; approx. 30 people and approx. 3 hours): You are our interview guests! How do you perceive the Seestadt? On a map, we identify and discuss attractive, exciting and unattractive places in the Seestadt. Which routes do you like to take and which do you avoid? This will help us learn more about you, your routes and the Seestadt. Further information such as the specific date will follow!
    • When? 11. April 2025 from 19:00
    • Where? At the Youth Centre (Barabara-Prammer-Allee 16)
    • Registration: Registration vit mail to info@mobillab.wien, but spontaneous drop-ins are also possible!

If you are below the age of 16, you need the consent of your legal guardian(s) to participate. Detailed information on data protection and data processing as well as a declaration of consent can be found on the right-hand side (boxes). Should your legal guardian(s) have any questions or concerns, they are welcome to contact us. We take data protection very seriously and it would be a great pity if you were unable to take part due to a lack of consent because of unresolved questions / concerns.

You have a say!

  • By taking part, you can express your wishes and needs, have a direct influence on your home and help shape the future of your neighbourhood.
  • Your participation will give you an insight into the world of research / universities.
  • Your efforts will be rewarded: As a thank you, we will be giving away three €10 vouchers for a shop in aspern Seestadt among the participants in the questionnaire.
  • Even better: If you take part in the workshop or even become part of our team (Sounding Board), you will receive a voucher and a surprise on top!

So join in and take the opportunity to contribute your opinion and experience! If you have any questions, please feel free to write to us or visit us during LAB opening hours.

Data protection and declaration of consent by the legal guardian(s)

We are a university institution and therefore data protection is a central concern for us – especially when surveying underage participants. We only collect and process data that is necessary to achieve the intended research purposes and always endeavour to ensure the security and accuracy of the data. The processing of personal data is therefore carried out in strict compliance with the principles and requirements laid down in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR / German: DSGVO), the Austrian Data Protection Law (DSG) and the Research Organisation Law (FOG).

To the legal guardians:

In terms of data protection law and research ethics, there is a lot to consider when interviewing minors under the age of 16 and ensuring compliance with the regulations. We take this responsibility very seriously and are happy to answer any question. Any concerns can and should be clarified. The protection of young people is also our top priority. We rely on your support to ensure that our study provides useful and representative results for aspern Seestadt! Please read the information we have provided on data protection as well as data processing and contact us if necessary so that your child can take part in the study with your consent. The study is an opportunity for children to participate in society, to help shape their immediate environment and to make their voices heard! We would therefore be delighted if you and your child would support our project.
