Consortium

In aspern Seestadt the aspern.mobil LAB is emerging – a place where residents, researchers and companies jointly contribute to the development of sustainable urban mobility.

Artifact-based Computing and User Research, Faculty of Informatics, TU Wien

The research field ACUR brings years of expertise in the field of user interface design, user interaction and design thinking into the project. In addition to this research field, the ACUR particularly addresses user-centered design of information and communication technologies (ICT). One main focus lies on interdisciplinary methods, participatory design processes and user-centered usability evaluations of new technologies. The goal is always to achieve the highest possible acceptance and relevance for a heterogeneous user field.

Research Unit of Transportation System Planning, Institute of Spatial Planning, TU Wien

The Research Unit of Transportation System Planning (MOVE) is part of the Institute of Spatial Planning at TU Wien and deals in teaching and research with transport, mobility and logistics in the context of spatial development as well as in interactions with social, technological and economic aspects. Our basic understanding integrates the demand- and supply-oriented perspective.

In teaching and research, the focus is on the analysis and sustainable design of mobility and transport. For this purpose, suitable measures, methods, instruments and processes are to be applied and further developed.

For this purpose, MOVE can draw on a broad methodological competence, ranging from quantitative and qualitative methods of social research to transport modeling and economic and ecological assessment methods, which are applied in complex research designs.

Wien 3420 Aspern Development AG

Wien 3420 AG is developing a city in which more than 25,000 people will live and more than 20,000 jobs will be created by the 2030s. Together with its partners, the development company is coordinating urban planning and the expansion of infrastructure in aspern Seestadt. Wien 3420 AG is responsible for ensuring that Seestadt has everything that makes a modern business location. From an efficient transport network to local supply, from land development to a logistics center for sustainable, efficient and thus cost-effective construction.

The multidisciplinary team of Wien 3420 AG brings a wide range of experience to aspern.mobil LAB and is a valuable sparring partner and enabler. The cooperation takes place within the framework of the mobility fund, idea management, but also with regard to the implementation of residents’ ideas and mobility consulting service for new residents. At the same time, Wien 3420 AG contributes mobility-related issues to the aspern.mobil LAB and, for its part, takes up findings on local mobility behaviour from the aspern.mobil LAB in order to integrate them into further planning processes for the development of aspern Seestadt.

The Neighbourhood Management Office

The Neighbourhood Management Office serves as a center focusing on neighbourly and community-oriented development of Seestadt for its residents. The Neighbourhood Management encourages exploring and getting to know Seestadt and organizes places of exchange and cooperation. The Neighbourhood Management runs the resident-oriented blog meine.seestadt.info. In 2015, the idea contest “Seestadt nachhaltig mobil” was carried out reaching more than 70 submissions. The selected project ideas are currently implemented, financed by the Aspern mobility fund.

Research Unit Law, Institute of Spatial Planning, TU Wien

As part of the Institute of Spatial Planning at TU Wien, the Research Unit Law sees its task in introducing the legal perspective into the interdisciplinary field of spatial planning. Accordingly, research is conducted on the central challenges of spatial, urban and transport planning as well as housing construction. The offered teaching is based on this research.

As a partner in aspern.mobil LAB, it focuses on research on legal obstacles to innovation for a change in mobility behaviour, the definition of public space and the identification of necessary adjustments to the framework conditions of traffic law. The Research Unit Law is the central point of contact for legal issues for projects supported by the aspern.mobil LAB.

Logo Urban Innovation Vienna

Urban Innovation Vienna

Urban Innovation Vienna, Vienna’s climate and innovation agency, is a subsidiary of Wien Holding and deals with future-oriented issues of urban development (resilience, participation, climate change adaptation, etc.) and functions as an innovation hub for the City of Vienna. Together with experts, different topics are dealt with in order to jointly develop customized solutions.

UIV is an important network partner in aspern.mobil LAB in order to spread, transfer and scale solutions that have been tested in aspern Seestadt – in order to meet the joint aspiration of climate change adaptation. UIV supports the establishment of a knowledge node between urban development and mobility. The exchange takes place in both directions: on the one hand, findings from aspern Seestadt are transferred to the Vienna-wide context, and on the other hand, current topics and thematically appropriate innovation projects are introduced to aspern.mobil LAB.

Logo Upstream

upstream – next level mobility, 2017-2021

Digitalization is increasingly permeating the field of mobility. Meanwhile a digital access option exists in virtually all means of transportation. As a consequence, innumerable isolated solutions are developed without a common infrastructure. In addition, cities are facing an increasing growth of population. In order to ensure people’s mobility in the future, a redesign of mobility is necessary. Upstream – next level mobility GmbH seizes upon this notion: in the interest of public service and to ensure mobility, Upstream merges all digital mobility services into a communal platform, combined with customizable applications and tailor-made functions.
